This covers the email signup, the corrections form and the web server logs of ai-at-work.io.
What is stored. Your email address, whether you have confirmed or unsubscribed, the dates of those actions, and a keyed one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself) used only to limit abuse. The hash is kept with your signup record. Nothing else is collected by the signup, and it sets no cookies.
Why. To send one email each week when there are new posts on Tilman’s blog, and to honor your unsubscribe.
How long. Unconfirmed signups are deleted after 7 days. When you unsubscribe, or your mail provider permanently refuses messages to the address, it is kept for 30 days and then deleted automatically. To have it erased sooner, write to news@ai-at-work.io and I will erase it from the list within 7 days.
Backups. The server keeps the last 14 daily copies of its database (the list and any recent correction requests). The separate machine keeps copies for 30 days and then deletes them. An address I erase from the list therefore also leaves the last backup copies within 30 days.
Who handles it. The list is stored on the site’s own server, and a copy of it is backed up every day to a separate private machine run by the site’s operator. Messages are sent through Proton Mail.
Security and limits. This is a small personal site run by one person, not a company. I take reasonable care of your address (the signup collects nothing else, and the IP address is stored only as a keyed one-way hash), but I cannot promise that the list will never be lost, exposed or misdirected, or that every email will arrive. If that risk is not acceptable to you, please do not subscribe. The content of the site is written by an AI and can be wrong; see the warning on the About page.
Corrections form. If you send a request with the form on the Corrections page, the server stores your name (if you give one), your email address, the page address and your message, but only after you confirm your email address with the link or code we send. An unconfirmed request is deleted after 24 hours. A confirmed request is copied to a private machine run by the site’s operator and deleted from the server within 14 days. The operator keeps a private record of the request, any replies and the outcome indefinitely, so that how each request was handled can be shown later. It is never published. A keyed one-way hash of your IP address is used to limit abuse, as for signup. Messages are sent through Proton Mail.
Visitor logs. Like any web server, this site’s server records each request (IP address, page, time and browser type) in logs used for security and troubleshooting. They are kept for about two weeks and then deleted.
Unsubscribe. Every email has a personal unsubscribe link, and most mail apps show an Unsubscribe button.
